Timeline is about the basic idea of time travelling into the past.
The story starts with a vacationing couple who come across a dying man in New Mexico desert. The man, Joe Traub, worked in a company (ITC) which was miles away.
Joe Traub dies of cardiac arrest but when the hospital gets an MRI scan, it seemed that Traub's blood veins did not match each other...
Now for the real story. In the town of Dordogne, in France, Doctor Edward Johnston leads a team of historians and archeologists who are studying the remains of two towns: La Roque and Castlegard.
Suspicious of something going on at ITC (their funder),Johnston travels to New Mexico to investigate.
While he was gone, the team makes a startling discovery in the ruins: a pair of lenses, glasses and a message for help written in English, apparently in Mr Johnston's handwriting. When the students travel to New Mexico to tell Johnston about their appalling discovery, they find from Robert Doniger- their founder, that Johnston had used ITC's quantum technology to travel to the time 1357, but had not returned as expected.
Of the four in the team, Stern (distrusting ITC'S technology) stays behind while Chris, Kate and Marek agree to go back in time to rescue their professor.
After arriving in the medieval period, the team are attacked by a group of horsemen led by a "Sir Guy". A grenade is set of that destroys the transit pad, and all hopes of going back to their time are lost.
Unable to return, Kate, Marek and Chris are captured by Lord Oliver of Castleguard. Meanwhile, enemies are plotting behind their back about the new arrivals at the castle. Lord Oliver thinks that Johnston knows the secret to defeating Lord Arnaut, Oliver's rival. The 4 help him make a secret weapon, knowing the outcome of the battle beforehand.
Eventually, the ITC employees realize that there is someone else in the past with them. The man reveals himself to be a former ITC employee who inteneded to use their transmit pads to get back to the present.
