Jurassic Park series: by Michael Crichton
I bet you've heard of the movie Jurassic Park. You've probably even seen it, right?
The story starts with a series of animal attacks on Costa Rica. The creatures are three toed lizards later identified as a special called Procompsognathus.
Paleontologist Dr Alan Grant and his student Ellie Sattler, are immediately whisked away by billionaire John Hammond-founder of InGen (International Genetic Technologies)- for a weekend visit to a "Biological Preserve" he has established on a remote island of the coast of Costa Rica.
On arrival, Alan and Ellie find out that the preserve is Jurassic Park, a theme park showing cloned, but caged dinosaurs from the Jurassic Age. The dinosaurs were cloned from damaged DNA found in prehistoric "amber".
Alan and Ellie meet 4 more people upon their entering the park: Ian Malcolm-a well known mathematician, a lawyer- Donald Gennaro and Hammond's two grandchildren- Tim and Alexis.
Alan and Ellie realize that Hammond wants them to convince Ian and Donald that the theme park is safe for opening to the public.
Hammond then provides them all with a tour of the park in his electric cars. During the tour, Alan finds a velociraptor egg, which proved his theory that the dinosaurs were breeding outside of the geneticists design.
The tour continues but suddenly, the power goes. This was due to software controller Dennis Nedry attempting to steal embryos for Lewis Dodgson, an agent of InGen's rival- Biosyn.
Due to the power cut, the electricity on the cages goes off as well and the 'tourists' find that they are stuck in their cars in front of the Tyrannosaurus Rex cage.
As the elctricity has gone, the T-Rex easily escapes the cage and stands in front of them. Not heeding Alan's warning, Ed Regis (public relations manager) starts moving and runs from the car, thus attracting the T-Rex's attention. Unfortunately, the lawyer is devoured by the reptile.
The two kids, Tim and Lex, are now the only ones left in the first car. As the dinosaur sees the light of the car, it starts walking towards it and rolls the car around. Thus Alan and the children are lost in the park. Malcolm, gravely injured, is found by Gennaro and park game warden Robert Muldoon later on.
The park's staff- Wu, Muldoon, Arnold, Gennaro, Harding and Hammond- struggle to bring the power back on. For a sahort amount of time, they manage to get the power back in the park, but, due to a series of mistakes on their part, the park again shuts down a second time. They realize that the fence containing the caged Velociraptors (known for their intelligence and agility) was switched of the whole time and that the cunning dinosaurs had escaped.
Meanwhile, Alan and the kids travel up river back to the Visitor's centre, carrying disturbing news that the Raptors were breeding and had escaped in "Anne B" the island's supply ship.
Read the book to find out what happens and who all survive in the amazing adventure novel, Jurassic Pork, and its sequel, The Lost World.
