Inheritance series: by Christopher Paolini
The Inheritance series are by far the best books I've ever read.
I thought I wasn't much into fantasy and that type of thing but as I was bored I took the biggest book available in the library in the teen section at that time- Eragon.
The story starts with an elf called Arya who was carrying a dragon egg for safe keeping when a Shade(a person possessed by spirits who was working for the evil king Galbatorix) attacks her and her companions. Thus she sends the egg as far away as she can- to a place called Carvahall. Though she is captured, the egg is far away.
Eragon is a farm boy who chances upon a strange rock while hunting. He takes this rock home and tries to sell it with his Uncle Garrow and his cousin Roran but to no avail. Then one fine night, the stone starts shaking and cracking and out comes a dragon. As Eragon touches the dragon his hand starts burning with a strange mark- the gedwey ignasia, the mark of a dragon rider.
The fall of the dragon riders was about a century ago and the only dragon rider left was the cruel king Galbatorix who was in possession of 3 dragon eggs, the remaining ones. When there are rumors of a new dragon rider around Carvahall (the town where Eragon lives), Galbatorix sends a pair of creatures called the Ra'zac to find him out and if so, capture him.
Luckily, Saphira, Eragon's newly named dragon, flies him away before the Ra'zac can find him but they still kill his uncle. His cousin was away at the time. Thus Eragon travels with Saphira and Brom, the only other human being who knows him as a dragon rider. Brom teaches him all kinds of sword tricks and magic spells that could be useful to Eragon during Battle.
Then, Eragon travels to the Varden, a resistance against Galbatorix. There happens an epic battle where he defeats the Shade and thus earns the name "Eragon Shadeslayer". In the following books, he travels to the elves to learn fighting skills and magic spells and everything a Dragon Rider needs to know.
