Wishful Thinking

Wishful Thinking: by Alexandra Bullen

Wishful thinking is the second book in the series, "Wish". I think "Wishful Thinking" is an AMAZING book, magical and interesting.

Adopted as a baby, Hazel Hayes has always felt alone. She's never belonged anywhere and she always yearned to know the truth about where she came from. Her foster mother had died when Hazel was young and Roy, her foster father had always moved her from one place to another, due to his own drunkenness.

On her eighteenth birthday, Roy gave her an envelope, telling Hazel that Wendy, Hazel's foster mother, had told him to give it to her on her eighteenth birthday.

When she opened the envelope, she found that Wendy had written a name. Rosanna Scott. That was her mother. Hazel could not believe the news! She found that Rosanna Scott had an art exhibition scheduled on a particular day.

Hazel immediately set out to make preparations for the day she was going to meet her mother. She got out the torn dress that she had had in her possession for ages. She took it to the lady who stitched it, Posey.

After collecting the dress, she finds that it was different. But it looked like it was made for her. It had a small butterfly tag at the bottom. So, with her new dress and the excitement of seeing her mother, Hazel sets out to the exhibition.

But when she went to the exhibition, she found that the exhibition was not a happy occasion. In fact, it was a funeral, for Rosanna...

Hazel, frustrated and devastated goes to a ferry and sits to think about what had happened. And she says:- "I wish I had gotten to know my mother better." Suddenly, the butterfly from the tag comes out and flies away. Hazel, thinking that she had imagined it, lets it go, and falls asleep.

When she wakes up, she finds that the ferry looked different. And when she got off, the whole town looked different. She couldn't see the mainland either. As she rummaged thorugh her bag, she found a note, and two dresses.

The note was from Posey, and it said that the two new dresses that were in Hazel's bag each had the power to grant a wish. She had obviously wished once, for she had made a wish when she was wearing the first dress. At that moment, Hazel realizes that the wish she had made about meeting her mother had come real.

So, she gets of the ferry and at once goes to a cafe, realizing only then that she was ravenous. Finding that she had no money on her, she is disappointed. At that moment, a boy called Luke, comes up and offers to buy her a drink.

While having tea, Hazel sees a poster by Rosanna Scott, stating that she needed household help. Hazel at once goes to the given address. She at once gets the job and Jaime, the caretaker there, halps her. Jaime is haughty, proud and rude. Hazel immediately dislikes her.

So, Hazel gets a shock when she finds that Rosanna had cancer and had died only eighteen years later. She's also in for a shock when she finds that her real mother was not Rosanna, but..... Jaime!!!

Follow Hazel through her amazing summer, making friends with her own mother, finidng love and having the ultimate best time of her life...
