"Do you ever wonder....Why we love
books?"
Many people (such as me) adore books and at the same time, many hate them. In my class, I am probably the only one who loves books this much.
My friends make fun of me, calling me a nerd and all, but who cares? So why do some people just love books? I know that if I could, I would just curl up in a corner and read book after book that was available to me.
The fact is, books, if written appropriately give us escape. That's probably the plain truth. Escape.
They give us escape from the world, escape from worries and escape from pain.
I might have the greatest life ever, but still I need escape. Books kind of put me in a trance, waking dreams. As nice as our life might be, I always wish I could inhabit another one.
As well as doing that, books don't stop space and limitations. On the contrary, they go beyond limitations, they go to places beyond our wildest dreams and they carry us far away, where we can forget our worries and thoughts.
They take us to the future, to the past, they show us creatures who might have never existed or maybe that might exist in the future, all the same, they make us jealous. They make us jealous of the world that they contain in their pages. They make us envy them and wish that we could be spirited into them.
That, is a power that nothing else in the world has.
In our imagination, books conjure up images and powers that seem impossible to have yet, in our trance, we have them. At the same time, they give us freedom. Freedom to create the shapes while they describe it, like the paint and the paintbrush. Freedom to guess the next part of the story. Freedom to make the villains as contorted and wrinkled as we like but still, the freedom to make the hero/heroine as beautiful or handsome or strong as we wish.
They give us new meaning to our lives. Each time we read a page, we learn new things, new parts of our world and we find new friends in the characters. Books give us many friends. They help us to manage things in our own life, giving us advice in what they would do in their own situations.
The smell of the pages, the number of words, the thickness of the book, is enough to make us enter into it's spell. Each word weaves a spell and creates a picture in our mind, so powerful we feel the presence of each person, we hear the din of the crowd and we see the beauty of the new world that we now have to escape to. We need not worry anymore, for we have a new world to escape to and explore and make new friends in.
Books bind us in a way nothing else can. Now, I know the meaning of spellbound. Books have magic within them. As soon as we open them, they release the magic and welcome us inside them...
So join me, and explore new books, thereby exploring new worlds, and escape into the unknown...
I have made a second blog, called AweBooks 102, because I was unable to add more pages to this one. Here is the link: www.awebooks102.blogspot.in
