The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games Trilogy: by Suzanne Collins

I think the Hunger Games Trilogy is one of the best books I've ever read.

The Hunger Games series revolves around Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the nation of Panem, where North America used to exist.
Panem was divided into 13 districts. The Capitol is in the center of these districts and it exercises political control over them.  The 13th district had rebelled against the Capitol and its harsh ways and thus was terminated.

To remind everyone of the consequences of rebelling against the Capitol, it organizes an annual event: The Hunger Games.

In the Hunger Games, each district has to send a boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to compete against the other district, to the death. The winner is the boy/girl who survives all the others.

The Book starts with the day of the reaping. In the reaping, children's names are pulled out of the basket.
As most of the families in the districts are poor, the children are allowed to put their names in more than one time as their age increases.

If they do that, they are given some food to live of but this also increases the chance of the kids getting chosen for the Games.

Katniss' sister is chosen but to save her, Katniss volunteers and is chosen for the Games along with a bakers' son: Peeta Mellark.
