His Dark Material Trilogy: by Phillip Pullman
Have you ever seen or heard of the movie "Golden Compass?"
If so, this movie was created from the book- Northern Lights- the first book in the series "His Dark Materials.
Plot
The story starts of with a girl called Lyra sneaking into her headmaster's office. Lyra Belaqua lives in Jordan College. She is taught by the scholars living there but there are no other children there except those of the servants.
She finds out that the Master was going to poison her uncle, Lord Asriel. She's hiding in the cupboard debating with herself about what to do, when she decides to stop her uncle from drinking the poisoned wine.
The story continues from there, when, after her uncle leaves, a lady called Mrs Coulter proposes to take her to the north, where Lyra has always wanted to go. Before she goes though, the Master of Jordan secretly gives her a strange device (telling her not to show it anyone, especially Mrs Coulter) - an alethiometer, a golden compass. Soon, Lyra learns to read it, and she finds out that the alethiometer tells her the truth, and answers her questions whatever they may be.
Thus Lyra and her daemon Pan continue through their journey, running away from Mrs Coulter, traveling with the Gyptians and rescuing injured kids from the North.

In the second book, Lyra travels between worlds and thus meets a boy called Will, about her age. In each book, new dangers are found and new twists are read. I think the "His Dark Materials Trilogy" Books are great for teenagers as well as pre-teens.
